This is version 3.31 of the WA7MBL BBS code. It is expected to be the
last in the version 3.xx series.

Also available is version 4.31. Version 4.31 is similar to version 3.31,
except that it only supports one TNC per copy. However, multiple copies
of 4.31 may be loaded under control of DesqView. These copies are then
able to share mail and user files.

If you are interested in running 4.31, you will need a copy of Desqview
(2.0 or later). An 80286 or 80386 based machine is recommended, but not
a requirement. It is possible to run two copies with only 640K of memory,
but it is recommended that you add more. On an 8086 or 80286 machine, the
added memory should be EEMS memory (AST RamPage, etc). Desqview cannot run
programs in EMS memory (Above Board, etc), so if you decide to try 4.31,
be certain that you purchase the correct type of memory.

I am presently developing version 5 using the new Turbo Pascal compiler (4.0).
This compiler eliminates some of the previous limitations. Because of my
efforts in this direction, I will not continue to support either version
3.31 or 4.31.

Version 5 will have the features of 3.31 and 4.31 combined. It will be
possible to operate one copy supporting up to 6 ports (as 3.31 does); or six
single-port copies, plus one local sysop window under Desqview (as 4.31 does),
or any combination (such as three 2-port copies).

If you are already running a version 4.xx test copy under Desqview, you will
want to upgrade it to 4.31.

If you are currently running 3.20 or 3.31 and wish to try 4.31, you may
request a copy of the version 4.31 release. However, be forewarned that
the documention is skimpy. Unless you are in a big hurry for the multiple
copy support, I would recommend that you upgrade to 3.31 and then wait for
the release of version 5.

The documentation for 3.31 is also lacking. The 3.13 documentation has not
been updated. You will find information concerning the changes from 3.13
to 3.31 included in CHANGES.xxx files.

I apologize for the poor documentation, but after talking to many sysops have
decided that my efforts should be concentrated on the version 5 release.

73, Jeff WA7MBL

PS - For those of you having a hard time finding a source for inexpensive
EEMS boards, I have located a source that has offered to make available
generic type EEMS boards at a discount. The same source has also agreed
to offer Desqview at a savings, and was going to try to find a good deal
on 4-port serial boards. I make no guarantees, but suggest that you may
give them a call for pricing and availability.
