      BPQ Installer v1.1 (beta)
      -------------------------

BPQINST1.EXE is a program to guide you through the process of installing
the G8BPQ Node software on your computer. Its intention is to ease
the process of installing BPQ for newcomers and it deliberately keeps
the Node's presence as unobtrusive as possible on the network. For
that reason, the installer does not configure or broadcast a Nodes
table. My hope is that, once newcomers have become familiar with the
basic settings, they will be in a better position to obtain the full
G8BPQ software 'suite' and give the configuration the 'personal' touch
that operating a full Network Node requires.

You should have unzipped BPQINST1.ZIP into a temporary directory which
should contain at least the following files:

  bpqcfg.exe
  bpqcode.386
  bpqcode.exe
  bpqdll.dll
  bpqinst1.exe

Run BPQINST1.EXE from a DOS prompt and it will ask you all the
questions necessary to install BPQ.

It will expect you to know certain information about your computer's
serial COM ports but will prompt you with default values for the most
common serial ports.

Throughout the installation procedure, the Installer will present you
with default values, where possible.

You can accept the default values by hitting the <Enter> key or you
can type in new values before hitting <Enter>. If you enter new values,
you should type the FULL value rather than trying to edit the default.

Towards the end of the installation, MSDOS and Windows 95/98 users are
given the opportunity to allow the Installer to update the autoexec.bat
file. Windows 3.1x users will need to update the file 'manually'.

Windows 3.1x and Windows 95/98 users MUST also disable the serial COM
port(s) which will be used by BPQ. Instructions appropriate to your
operating system are given during the installation.

WINDOWS Users...

The BPQ Node software is hard-coded and expects to find its Windows
files in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory *on the same hard-drive* as
BPQ itself. If you have installed Windows in a different directory,
the Installer will create the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directories and
install the appropriate BPQ files there.

New in version 1.1 Beta
-----------------------

I've tried to provide some limited support for external Baycom cards
but it's not easy because of the many different Baycom configurations
and drivers that are available. BPQINST1.EXE attempts to configure the
BPQ parameters correctly for these cards but you will still need to
configure and load the Baycom drivers separately.

Support for enhanced KISS modes Polled, Checksum, Ackmode and Slave.

'Nested' sub-directory for BPQ is now allowed (maximum of two).
 eg: c:\bpqtest\bpq now works.

Some of the configuration options now need less typing! When a list
of options is given, if the first letter is highlighted, that's all
you need to type.
